
Meeting of the Group of Friends of UHC and Global Health Convened in the USA under the Co-Chairmanship of Zurab Azarashvili
Meeting of the Group of Friends of UHC and Global Health has been convened in the USA under the co-chairmanship of the Minister of Health of Georgia, Zurab Azarashvili. The Minister presented to the members of the Group implemented and ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring access to healthcare and medicines.
“With technical support from the WHO and the World Bank we have recently introduced a mechanism of reference pricing for medicines, which currently applies to more than 2,300 medicines.
We are working on introducing mechanism of direct agreement (Managed Entry Agreements) with the manufacturers of expensive medicines, which is an important step towards reducing pharmaceutical costs.
I am proud, that Georgia, together with Japan and Thailand, is co-chairing Group of Friends of UHC, which is an important platform for UN member states to implement UHC by 2030”, - stated Zurab Azarashvili.
Zurab Azarashvili focused on the results of Universal Healthcare Program and noted that out-of-pocket payments have substantially reduced.
The Minister of Health of Georgia pays official visit to the US, where he participates in high-level meetings within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
