Minister of Health Participates in the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly
Zurab Azarashvili pays official visit to the US, where he participates in high-level meetings within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
Pandemic prevention, preparedness and response are among main topics discussed by health authorities and heads of 158 countries.
The Minister of Health of Georgia delivered a speech during the session and focused on the impact of the pandemic, prevention and future plans.
“The pandemic showed us the need for a multi-sectoral response. COVID-19 affected not only our health, but had negative impact on our economy, our social and day life. The pandemic reminded us that the health sector alone can not mitigate the full spectrum of pandemic challenges. We must work together across all the sectors for comprehensive response. Reflecting on the lessons learned from the pandemic, we must commit to make necessary changes and investments to ensure better preparedness for future health emergencies of such magnitude. We have prioritized strengthening national public health preparedness and response; we established public health emergency operational centers on central and sub-regional levels. The goal is collecting, exchanging data and information, enabling making swift decisions and timely response during emergencies”, - stated the Minister of Health.
In the USA, during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, Zurab Azarashvili will participate in the planned high-level meetings on importance of equal access to healthcare services and fighting tuberculosis.
