
Meeting of National Council of Patients Safety Held in the Ministry of Health
Meeting of National Council of Patients Safety has been conducted in the Ministry of Health.
The participants of the meeting reflected on state policy on patients safety, the steps taken and future vision.
It was noted that ensuring maximum access to quality healthcare represents a priority of the Ministry. For this purpose, the Ministry developed Patients Safety Program, 2024-2026.
The project is aimed at establishment of high-reliability Health Systems and healthcare organizations, safety of clinical process, support to professional education and strengthening involvement of patients and their families in the field of healthcare.
At the meeting, First Deputy Minister of Health, Tamar Gabunia dwelt upon the international standards, that will become mandatory for the clinics enrolled in Universal Healthcare Program from 2025. In addition, the mandate of the Regulation Agency for Medical and Pharmaceutical Activities has been expanded; the main goal of the legislative changes is protection of patients’ best interests in medical facility, patient’s safety and quality control of medical services. In addition, Professional Development Council under the Ministry of Health actively considers claims related to patients safety and medical errors.
According to Tamar Gabunia, the well-being of medical personnel is a guarantee of the safety of patients. In recognition of this, the Ministry works on strengthening of professional platforms.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various entities and international organizations.
