Dialogue on the needs of children with disabilities
UNICEF invited state institutions and non-governmental organizations to discuss the issues of the needs of children with disabilities, Social Services Programs and the negative stigma in society as well.
The meeting was attended by UNICEF Representatives in Georgia - Laila Omar Gad, Deputy Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs Nino Berdzuli and Deputy Minister of Education, Lia Gigauri. The policy dialogue on the issues of persons with disabilities aims to develop specific recommendations and determine future steps.
Georgia joined the UN Convention on Persons with Disabilities and undertook an engagement to protect their rights in different directions including healthcare, education and social fields. What programs are for children with disabilities, what are the challenges faced by healthcare and social services, what measures are planned to go to social model – all these questions were discussed by the Deputy Minister Nino Berdzuli and by the representatives of Social Policy Department of the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs.
