WHO Standing Committee Meeting
Georgia hosts the WHO’s Standing Committee Meeting. Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs David Sergeenko opened the event with the Director of WHO Regional Director Zsuzsanna Jakab. The action plan which has recently been approved by the Georgian Healthcare System and the World Health Organization was reviewed at the meeting. 2018-2019 Cooperation Agreement has been signed by the Ministry of Health of Georgia and the World Health Organization's Regional Office of Europe. The document was signed by the Minister of Health David Sergeenko and the Regional Director of the Organization Zsuzsanna Jakab. The memorandum reflects the priority directions of the two-year partnership of the parties.
The WHO's regional director focused on the achievements in healthcare of the country. "Georgia is in the leading position in the World Health Organization. A very important document has been signed today. The country has taken significant steps to improve the healthcare system. The Committee's main priority is to make healthcare services accessible for everyone. The World Health Organization continues to support Georgia. I think our cooperation will be successful and productive. We are also delighted to legislate the control of tobacco. This is the best legislation in Europe," he said.
Georgia for its first time is the head of the Permanent Commission of the World Health Organization for Europe.
